Bargaining Committee Update
[March 2011]Update on bargaining: CUPE 2626 reaches tentative agreement with University of Ottawa
After many months of negotiations, the bargaining committee of CUPE 2626 has reached a tentative agreement with the University of Ottawa. The last significant issue on the table, pay increases, was addressed this past Thursday and Friday when the University finally changed its original position of no wage and financial aid increases for the next three years.
“We now believe our three major issues, equity, efficiency, and security, are addressed in this new agreement” says Nadine Bernard, BC Vice-Chair.
Paul Boileau, CUPE 2626’s regional representative, agrees. “The bargaining team has secured a solid deal for the union. They made it clear that no financial gain was not an option”.
The details of the tentative agreement will be presented at the Annual General Assembly on March 23rd where all members present will be asked to ratify the agreement.

Bargaining Newsletter - 2010-2011 November EditionAbout Bargaining (DOC format)
Collective bargaining is the process by which the union renews and revises the terms of its contract (our Our Collective Agreement) with the employer on a periodic basis. During bargaining years, which are determined by the CA in effect, the local elects its Bargaining Committee via AGA, and it is this group that undertakes developing proposals and bargaining for changes to the Collective Agreement.
As stated in our Bylaws in the event that the Annual Generally Assembly loses or does not achieve quorum, the 2010-2011 Bargaining Committee was elected by the Special Stewards’ Council on March 29, 2010. The elected members are:
Félix Grenier (chair)
John Casey Beal
Nadine Bernard
Dany-Laure Durand
Matthew Ladd
Sarah Lawrance
Scott Miller
Dennis Stark
We’d also like to thank our volunteer members as well as our union President and the Stewards Council.
Bargaining Committee Update
[December 2010]CUPE 2626 achieves significant but incomplete results during last bargaining sessions of 2010
CUPE 2626, the Union representing all students occupying an academic position at the University of Ottawa, achieved significant results during four days of bargaining with the Employer over the last few weeks.
It seems that the arrival of a conciliator and the significant support offered by CUPE 2626 Bargaining Committee members during the strike mandate vote on November 15 helped talks progress with University of Ottawa representatives.
"We have achieved key concessions on several articles involving major issues on our bargaining agenda," explained Felix Grenier, CUPE 2626 President and Bargaining Committee Chair. "Negotiations were progressing at a snail’s pace until December 3, the last day of negotiations planned for 2010, but we succeeded in reaching several agreements that benefit our members during the final hours of bargaining."
The recent conclusion of other bargaining processes in the Ontario academic sector and particularly in Ottawa will likely help negotiations at the University of Ottawa, said CUPE 2626’s Chief Negotiator, Paul Boileau.
"In January 2011, we will continue working to achieve concessions on a number of pending issues," said Nadine Bernard, CUPE 2626 Bargaining Committee Vice President. "Most importantly, we will be asking for general benefits and fair salary increases for our members in line with the rapid tuition increase at the University of Ottawa."
The next bargaining sessions between CUPE 2626 and the University of Ottawa are scheduled for January 20 and 21. Regular updates will be sent out informing members and the university community of the progress of negotiations. Until then, the CUPE 2626 team wishes a very happy holiday season and a well deserved break to all members of the university community.
