Bargaining 2010-2011

About Bargaining (PDF format)

Collective bargaining is the process by which the union renews and revises the terms of its contract (our Our Collective Agreement) with the employer on a periodic basis. During bargaining years, which are determined by the CA in effect, the local elects its Bargaining Committee via AGA, and it is this group that undertakes developing proposals and bargaining for changes to the Collective Agreement.

As stated in our Bylaws in the event that the Annual Generally Assembly loses or does not achieve quorum, the 2010-2011 Bargaining Committee was elected by the Special Stewards’ Council on March 29, 2010. The elected members are:

John Casey Beal
Nadine Bernard
(BC Chair)
Dany-Laure Durand
Sarah Lawrance
Scott Miller
Dennis Stark

We’d also like to thank our volunteer members as well as our union President and the Stewards Council.

Using the survey conducted by the Pre-Bargaining Committee and the Bargaining Mandate adopted at the March 10, 2010 AGA, proposals are being drafted in consultation with our CUPE National Staff Representative and Legal Counsel. Details on this proposal will be available once they have been presented to the University Administration. Rest assured that:

CUPE 2626 recognizes that the March Ontario Budget affirms the rules of collective bargaining remain unchanged. As unionized workers our right to collective bargaining is not diminished by the recently introduced budget legislation.

Furthermore, analysis of the Ontario government’s budget indicates that university operating revenues across the province are expected to rise, not fall, by roughly 6.8%.

In this context, we remain resolute in purpose and prepared to engage in constructive discussions to reach a fair and equitable Collective Agreement.
