Election Procedures

The election procedures for CUPE 2626 have two parts and span over two months.

The first part is the Senior Executive Officer Election during which the senior executive positions are filled. A complete list and description of the positions can be found in the “positions” tabs. This election process is secret ballot vote which has a nomination period (3 weeks), a campaigning period (3 weeks) and a balloting period (2 weeks). The entire process is governed by the Chief Returning Officer (CRO).

The nomination period start on the 1st of January and ends the third Monday before reading week. Nomination form will be available on the CUPE2626 website and in the office.

Once the candidates for the positions are announced on the following Friday, the campaigning period begins. The campaigning is mainly done through the CUPE2626 website. Each candidate is given his equal space on the candidate page. The campaigning period ends after reading week is finished.

Finally the balloting period starts on the Monday after reading week and ends two weeks later on the second Friday after reading week. Each day of the balloting period, a voting booth will be available in the CUPE 2626 Office during work hours. On the last Wednesday and Thursday of the balloting period, special voting booths will be set up in heavily trafficked location in the University Center and on the Roger-Guidon campus.

The result of the election are then publicized which concludes the Senior Executive Officer Elections.

The complete and more detailed procedure is outlined in the bylaws of our constitution which can be found in official documents section. A calendar of events is also included in this section.

The second part of the election procedures takes place at the Annual General Assembly (AGA) during which key decision concerning our union are made. The next AGA will be held March 10th, 2010, at 6pm in the Alumni Auditorium. At this assembly all the Junior Executive Officer Positions and Non-Executive Positions are filled. If any of the Senior Executive Position is vacant for any reason, they may also be filled during the AGA. The goals of the AGA are:

- to present an account of the activities of CUPE 2626 over the past year
- to hold elections
- to adopt a budget for the upcoming academic year
- to respond to your questions regarding our budget from the previous year

We need to have a quorum in order to hold the meeting and your presence will empower your Union. All members are welcome to run for paid positions, vote, and have their voices heard. A candidate must obtain 50% +1 of the votes cast. If no majority obtained, the candidate with the fewest votes shall be dropped, and a second ballot taken.
