Chief Steward (French-language)

  • There are two Chief Steward positions (CS): one French-language (CSF) and one English Language (CSA).

  • The responsibilities of the CSs are shared equitably between them.

  • The CSs are the resource persons for the stewards; the CSs coordinate the training and the activities of the stewards. 11.5.4. The CSs have the right to speak at SC meetings, but, subject to Article 10, they do not have the right to present motions, the right to vote, nor the right to nominate someone or to be nominated.

  • Both CSs decide on the agenda of the SC meetings, after consulting with the stewards.

  • The CSs must ensure that:
    a) all SC meetings are adequately called;
    b) the agenda and the necessary documentation are sent to the members of the SC at least seven (7) days before the meeting is to be held;
    c) the minutes are handed, after their adoption, to the administrative secretary of CUPE 2626 so that they can be filed in the archives.

  • The CSs are responsible for keeping open lines of communication between the EC and the stewards by making sure that: a) a summary of discussions and activities of the SC, including its recommendations, is presented to members of the EC; b) a summary of the discussions, decisions and activities of EC members is presented to members of the SC

  • The CSs are members of the Grievance Committee (GC). 11.5.9. Subject to article 9.3, the CSs are points of contact for members as far as complaints and grievances are concerned.

  • The CSs can recommend to the Secretary-Treasurer the designation of CUPE 2626 delegates to the SOHSCs.

  • The CSs may be assigned specific tasks and duties by the President or by the EC.

  • At the end of their mandate, the Chief Stewards must submit to the EC written reports which will then be filed in the CUPE 2626 archives. 11.5.13. Subject to Article 14, the positions of CSs are paid positions.
